Our Curriculum

We believe learning should be fun. The Nurture Children’s Curriculum is specially designed to ensure your child’s day is spent in a caring environment with the best interaction possible. We have designed a curriculum for each age group which encourages children to think, reason, question, experiment and explore.

You will receive a tool-kit of information relevant to your child’s development and age group, which will help you understand how your child learns through play. These guidelines will be used in conjunction with the information you will receive about your child’s daily, weekly, monthly routines.

At Nurture, we believe it is important that your child is given the space and opportunity to explore and discover things for themselves.

We love to watch her learning through play, free creativity and not being expected to colour in the lines… not having lines at all, fostering trust and independence in our little one.”

“Encouraging each child’s holistic development and learning requires the implementation of a verifiable, broad-based, documented and flexible curriculum or programme.”

We have a curriculum for each age group:

  • Baby Steps (0-1 years)
  • First Leaps (1-2 years)
  • Giant Strides (2-3 years)
  • Montessori (3 plus)
  • Afterschool (5 plus)

Our Baby Steps Curriculum (3 months – 1 year)

In our specially designed Baby Rooms we provide places for babies from 3 months old up to approximately 12 months. We aim to follow your baby’s routine as much as possible and your child’s key worker will work with you to ensure an easy transition from home. We are led by your child’s interests and development. This is a time of rapid development and we will provide your baby with safe areas where they will crawl, climb, learn to pull themselves up and, if they are ready, they will begin walking in this room too. Exploring and discovery will be a large part of your baby’s experience at this time. We have musical instruments, messy play, painting and story time on a daily basis to help develop your baby’s gross and fine motor skills and to encourage language development. It really is exciting to see the babies develop so much in this room.

“I couldn’t be happier with the care provided by the Baby Room.  My son adores the staff and they are so caring and affectionate with him.  He has lots of fun during the day and I love getting to see the pictures of this on the app.  He comes home every evening exhausted but content and is happy going in every morning. I still breastfeed my little boy and I follow baby led weaning and the creche is great to facilitate this. I’m delighted I chose to send my baby to Nurture.”

Our Wobbler First Leaps Curriculum (1 – 2 years)

As your child begins to walk, they progress to this care group. Your child will continue to experience play elements such as water, sand, climbing, story-time, music and movement and reading. Their growing independence will be facilitated and encouraged. The tricycles, see-saws and slides in the outdoor play area will help develop your child’s gross motor skills. The Wobbler Room is a really fun and busy room and each baby’s personality begins to shine through.

“I would like to say that we have been delighted with Irene and the staff in the Wobbler Room in Nurture Douglas since our little boy started in July.  It took him a good while to get used to crèche, but the staff were incredibly patient and kind with him. Irene was great to keep checking in with us and I felt they were all really mindful of his needs. We are very happy with our experience.”

Our Toddler Giant Strides Curriculum (2 – 3 years)

The Giant Strides Toddler Curriculum helps your child to excel in their development while helping them to have fun. By having fun they are improving their skills and as they master these skills, they love showing us how independent they have become. This includes learning to get dressed themselves, put on their shoes, toilet training, using cutlery etc. Activities include arts and crafts, reading, baking, life skills, physical exercises, music and role play. Toilet training begins in this room and our toilets are specifically designed to cater for this.

“There are numerous activities undertaken which our toddler loves, ranging from creative (singing / music / art) to the beginnings of educational (letters / numbers). The food is also excellent, with well-planned menus provided to us in advance, full of nutritious meals. We are confident and happy that Nurture is having a very positive impact on our son’s growth and development and as a result we are planning to use Nurture again with our expected second child.”

Our Montessori Curriculum (3 – 5 years)

Our Montessori class provides a prepared environment where children develop their own skills: Sensory, Cultural, Language and Arithmetic. To reap the full benefits of this curriculum, we recommend children attend the two-year programme. We provide parents with support and information to continue the programme at home. All toys and equipment are supplied by specialists in Montessori teaching.

“We have had a wonderful experience at Nurture in the Montessori Programme.  We are from the US and had to find a preschool online and make arrangements through email.  Jenny was so kind and helpful in finding us a place at Nurture and taking care of everything before we arrived.  Since starting at Nurture, our twin girls have thrived and their imaginations have blossomed… All of the teachers are incredibly patient, while maintaining an enriching learning environment that fosters independence. After only a few weeks at Nurture, they are counting to ten in Irish!  Nurture has been the perfect first preschool experience for our girls.”

Our After-School programme (5+ years)*

*where available

Our after-school programme provides a relaxing and comfortable environment for your child after their school day.  They are given a hot meal and homework is supervised. There is time for free play, arts and crafts, baking, drama, role play, music and movement, story time, construction toys and outdoor play.  A comfortable area is provided where children can relax and have some quiet time to themselves. The children “own” this room and this is what makes our after-school programme so successful.

Note

*Please note we have a limited number of after-school places. Please make an enquiry to your preferred centre Dublin, Cork, Clare  and the Manager will advise you on availability.

“Nurture has given our little boy a great stepping stone and transition to National School.”
